Cupcakes are a great way to celebrate throw back Thursday. Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes were one of my favorites as a child. And I thought they were pretty well known back in the day. But it turns out a lot of people didn’t know what they were.

Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

All you do is make your favorite cupcake mix as the recipe (or box) suggests. My personal favorite (and the most traditional form) of these is to use a Funfetti Cake Mix. Then you just use the ice cream cones like you would a cupcake liner.

There are many suggestions for the best way to bake them- some people put the cones in cupcake pans, some fashion a special pan by cutting holes in a foil pan. I tend to stand them up in a loaf pan. I find that is the best way to have them hold each other up. But whatever you do, mostly you just need to be careful putting them into and taking them out of the oven. These bake like a regular cupcake at 350* for about 12-15 minutes or until cooked through.

After cooling, frost these with whatever frosting your heart desires. The classic Funfetti frosting has expanded to include a lot of fun colors in their classic vanilla. So I decided to go with store bought frosting and play with the fun colors.

These are always a big hit. They don’t travel particularly well, but the reactions make the effort worthwhile!
